Sun River
lo-fi, singer-songwriter
Recorded in Portland, OR.
I wrote this album out of an abundance of joy, living in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest among artists and writers, working out guitar intricacies at picnic tables in the park.
It was my first experiment blending field recordings with written music— samples came from Forest Park, a Portland elementary school in Southeast, and Westminster Presbyterian Church (who also kindly allowed pianist Shohei Kobayashi to use their baby grand and their organ).
This was my first collaboration with Nicholas Erickson, who played bass and slide guitar, captured field recordings, and mixed and mastered the record. We would go on to work together on many more projects, including Cymbeline (2016) and Family Piano (2022).
I have so much gratitude for all the people who helped make this album possible.
